Why Hire a Running Coach or Personal Trainer?

 

WHY SHOULD I HIRE A COACH OR PERSONAL TRAINER?

Many Reasons:

  • First time racing a new distance and not sure where to start (5K, 5 miler, 10K, etc)

  • Looking to increase race distance or try a new sport (first half marathon, marathon, ultra)

  • Always getting injured during a training cycle

  • Looking to get faster

  • Starting a training cycle motivated but fades quickly with little progress

  • Want to build strength, muscle, and/or work on muscle imbalances

I STILL DON'T THINK I NEED A ONE, WHY SHOULD I HIRE A COACH?

Hiring a running coach or personal trainer can be a tough decision. The financial investment is something you will need to weigh with the benefits. There’s lots of free plans and literature available online (Coach D actually recommends Hal Higdon programming for those looking to free resources!) but these plans rarely take into account injury prevention, proper running form drills, accurate paces for runs, and guidance a long the way…bottom line, you miss out on personalization of your training.

A great coach will do more than just write you a running plan.

Danelle will develop a customized training plan tailored to your lifestyle, goals, and fitness level. This is a dynamic plan that can be adjusted due to weather, schedule, or other factors. Coaching includes:

  • Unlimited contact with your running coach for questions, clarification, feedback, and support.

  • Nutritional and hydration guidance including race day fueling.

  • Injury prevention guidance.

  • Strength and flexibility exercises.

  • Mental strength tactics and exercises.

  • Racing and pacing strategies.

Working with a running coach or personal trainer can keep you accountable and motivated (and from doing something stupid in your training) when training gets tough. A coach won’t do the work for you; but they’ll be there every step of the way to support you.

I’M TOO SLOW TO NEED A COACH

WRONG! Danielle coaches athletes of all abilities. Whether you’re training for your first 5K or qualify for Boston, she has a comprehensive training plan for you. Beginner athletes can expect foundational skill work, strength training, and building a solid running foundation. Intermediate runners can expect structured workouts that challenge their current fitness and busts plateus. Advanced runners can expect to be challenged with intricate workouts that demand consistency and dedication.

Coach D strives to bring the joy of running to each athlete - regardless of finishing time and running pace.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

During you initial consultation (in person or online) Coach D will evaluate your current fitness level, assess past injuries, current training schedule, discuss immediate and long term goals & introduce athlete to Run with Coach D training philosophy. During this session, Coach D will provide corrective exercises and a preliminary program outline for training. Come prepared with questions and training history, the more data the better!

WHAT TYPE OF SUPPORT WILL I RECEIVE FROM DANIELLE?

Danielle will provide unlimited text and email support to all athletes. You will also receive a detailed recap of topics covered (in person and online) as well as access to a video library of exercise technique & running technique drills. Danielle is there to support your running/fitness journey every step of the way. Have a great run - text her! She is ready to celebrate you! Not feeling motivated - text her! She’ll have words of encouragement and support.

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY TRAINING PLANS?

Athletes will be provided access to training plans supported in two apps. Running clients can expect to use Training Tilt. Purchasing a one time plan, you will receive a customized training plan via PDF. Personal training clients will receive their workouts via Fit SW. Danielle will create and share all of your personalized training plans & notes from each session for you in these files. Athletes can also share Garmin or Strava data with Danielle for feedback.

I JUST WANT TO TRY FOR A MONTH, DO I HAVE TO COMMIT TO COACH D FOR AN ENTIRE TRAINING CYCLE?

Coach D offers month at a time commitment. Things change and Danielle understands this - she also offers a 30 minute consultation where you can ask questions and feel confident with your choice to hire a coach. Many times clients start out with a 4-week plan purchase to “see” how an individualized training plan works and then make decisions from there. Still not sure what you need?
